The cornerstone of the AGA hydrogen production unit was placed on Monday, 4th of May at the Neste refinery located at Kilpilahti, Porvoo. Constructing the new unit in Kilpilahti is a significant historical investment for AGA both financially and for expanding business in the field. The total investment will be approximately 100 million euros.
The new unit is operational in August 2016 and it shall replace output from the older Neste production facility in the same area. In the future Neste will acquire about 20% of the hydrogen it needs for the Porvoo refinery from the production unit built by Linde Engineering and operated by AGA. The remaining will be largely produced in Nestes own production facilities.

“Cooperation with AGA is an excellent solution for improving the hydrogen production efficiency. The new facility constructed by AGA increases the available hydrogen production capacity of Neste, which will improve the reliability, and flexibility of the refinery. This arrangement allows us to direct our own investments into developing refinery operations and assures that the Porvoo refinery remains one of Europe's most competitive ones”, states Neste Executive Vice President for Oil Products Business Area Matti Lehmus.
"Industrial production growth is based on investments. Therefore, we are especially pleased to have this opportunity to build this highly efficient and competitive hydrogen production unit for Neste. This project is also significant for our own business activities”, says AGA Sales Director Johanna Ylikoski.

Execution planning for the hydrogen production unit started at the end of last year and it is on its final stretch. Groundwork has been completed; next up is laying the foundation and installing underground pipes. Five to ten local subcontractors shall be working on the site, creating jobs at its peak for approximately 150 persons.
The construction work may cause intermittent noise and increased traffic in the neighbourhood of Porvoo refinery.
